Tenor saxophonist John Coltrane's 1957 session for Blue Note produced all the material for this legendary album, 'Blue Train'. The album marked the first time that Trane was given the opportunity to select his own compositions and sidemen for the date; Lee Morgan, Curtis Fuller, Kenny Drew, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones. When asked in a 1960 radio interview which was his favourite of all the albums he recorded up to that point, Coltrane was quick to reply, "Blue Train."
